Research Training
Your human subjects research training must be up-to-date for the duration of the study. Instructions for logging in and completing your research training can be found at the links below.
Both the UW Biomedical Research course and HIPAA training are required for participation in this study.
For the Biomedical course, follow the training listed under “Human Subject Protection Training”. In step 6, the only required information is an email address and it can be any email that you prefer. In step 7, you only need to select the first checkbox in question 2 – Human participants training. Questions 1, 3, and 4 do not require an response.
This should bring you to a page titled “Institutional Courses”. You will select “View Courses” and the UW Biomedical Course should display under “Courses Ready to Begin”.

REDCap FAQ:
1. I can’t find an athlete in REDCap. How do I enter injuries for them?
If an athlete does not come up in the search, that means they did not consent to participate in the study and you do not need to enter any injury information for them.
2. When do I enter injuries?
Enter injuries any time you interact with a student-athlete, even if you are seeing them multiple times for the same injury. This will help us map out recovery trajectories as they change participation status and progress towards full mileage.
3. What if the injury diagnosis I am looking for isn’t an option?
Call or email Mikel. She will manually add the injury for you and update the options in REDCap for future injuries.
4. What if an athlete has multiple injuries at the same time?
Enter the first injury following the steps above. When you save the first injury, you will see the screen to the right. Select the plus sign next to Injury Log and enter the next injury. Repeat as needed until all current injuries are logged.
5. What do the status circles mean?
REDCap automatically color-codes data based on completion. You don’t need to do anything based on the colors you see. If there are any issues with the data, Mikel will reach out to clarify.
